Yes there is -- from the source which is the GOVERNMENT.

It is hard to find grants to start a business. Unlike the myths that some perpetuate, federal government and even private foundations hardly give grant money for starting a for-profit business.

One possible exception is for companies developing or exporting agricultural goods, including food and forest product. Another exception could be the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) or Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs http://www.sba.gov/aboutsba/sbaprograms/sbir/index.html , which fund the research and development of technological innovation that meets specific government needs.

Your best bet actually will be from the states if they offer grant programs for women (or any other special interest groups -- minorities, women, disabled, veterans, etc). Or check with non profit organizations, particularly women organizations if they offer grants. Examples include

Iowa Women's Foundation http://www.iawf.org/
New Mexico Women's Foundation http://www.nmwf.org/guidelines.html

Even SBA does NOT give out grants. From the SBA website http://www.sba.gov/mostrequesteditems/CON_FAQ2.html

"The U.S. Small Business Administration does not offer grants to start or expand small businesses, although it does offer a wide variety of loan programs. (See http://www.sba.gov/financing for more information) While SBA does offer some grant programs, these are generally designed to expand and enhance organizations that provide small business management, technical, or financial assistance. These grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments."

Nonetheless, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support a for-profit venture.

Here is a listing of federal grants for small businesses. See if there is any available for individuals for starting a business -- THERE'S NONE.
http://12.46.245.173/pls/portal30/CATALOG.BROWSE_BENEF_RPT.show

Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT - Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program

Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women's Business Ownership Assistance that are given to those who will create women's business center that will train women entrepreneurs
References :
There are no grants for a for profit business unless you are opening a daycare. If you need money, you will need to apply for a loan. No lender will talk to you unless you provide them with a valid business plan. Go to http://www.sba.gov , http://www.score.org or http://www.bplan.com for sample business plans and instructions on how to write a business plan.

Then, go to http://www.score.org/ and in the upper left hand corner, enter your zip code. On the next screen, you will get information on the nearest SCORE chapter. Call them and arrange for a free meeting with a SCORE counselor to review your business plan and discuss various loan options available to you.

SCORE is a nonprofit association dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide. SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

SCORE has 389 chapters in locations throughout the United States and its territories, with 10,500 volunteers nationwide. Both working and retired executives and business owners donate time and expertise as business counselors.
References :
Please get nothing from the solicitors on line...

They R still being investigated from fraud troubles I had ran into w/same idea in mind....

Do UR-self a favor, and look these Questions up on government (IE: www.small business loans, minority.GOV)
this is not real site but an example...make sure.gov is at the end try goggle or ask.com and see if you can find legit/sites.

You never have 2 pay for information such as this, DON'T GIVE ANY ACCOUNT INFO/via/net...I had a debit card/Visa logo on it and my account was hit 5 times taken for almost 1,000.00 from a person who's working several jobs to survive.

Please use caution and your head, woman getting loans are still (prob. not for long) getting a minority card for opening a small business. Just like in Unions so many woman/and particular races must make up a set % of over-all employee's.

Put your head down and research you'll find a way that works for you.

Good Luck, it took me 2-yrs to bounce back after I was taken by a scammer on Grants, Please use caution...
References :
Sending My Best Wishes & Good Luck in the Future of Your Business

DO NOT PAY FOR GRANT INFORMATION. In most cases they will give you a list of phone numbers for state agencies and the SBA, which you can get for free from a phone book. In reality grant money is not generally available.

Starting a business is one of the hardest (yet rewarding) things you will ever do and most small businesses fail in the first five years. If the government where to give you the money to start your business you have no incentive to work 16 hour days, seven days a week for little or no money while you try to grow your business. If you give up and walk away you have no financial penalty.

The grants that are out there are usually not for start-up funds and are sometimes tied to future tax obligations. For example a business might get a refund on taxes paid by the companies employees. So you create jobs and you will get grant money.

Don't be discouraged. Apply for a low interest loan and go into business, just do your homework first and start with a well thought out business plan.
References :
Hey, Cheryl P, that's my name too. I don't know where you live, but you can contact your local planning district commission. They usually have a list of empowerment groups that will help you find the grants. And its a good idea to do this in person, so they have a face with a name. Especially if it's a small town. If you can't find any near you, email me, and I'll email you back the names of a couple of groups that will have the information you need.
References :
Check the Small Business Administration. They have many grant programs, and other very-low or no-interest loans. They have offices in many major cities.

You'll need a business plan. They'll help you put one together.

I think it's sba.gov
References :
The ad is too wordy for me to read all of it. When I am looking for a home first I look at the location then price, bedrooms, baths, year built, acreage and pictures. I don't really care about the sellers opinion of the amount I will enjoy a feature. They might think a floating stairway is cool where I see stairs I think I don't want to deal with stairs.
References :
But guess what...entrepreneurs who have good ideas get private money.
References :
28 Somers Loop, would you like to buy it?
Balanced between two times, the Old Tahoe days of yesteryear and the Tahoe of the New Millennium is this spectacular custom home, nestled in the quiet of Crystal Bay, Nevada. Granite boulders and views of the sparkling cobalt waters of Lake Tahoe, combined with enhanced natural landscaping on this level piece of ground invite you to enjoy the outdoors from the moment you arrive.

The entry is flanked by reclaimed timbers found in the Sierra Nevada mountains, a piece of yesterday that by using it preserves a piece of tomorrow. Open the door and, adjacent to the garage, you will be attracted to the hand crafted manzanita railing and floating wooden stairs drawing you to the upper floor. Before you go, stop and take the time to visit the two bedrooms and two baths on this floor, one a master suite. From here, choose the stairs or the elevator and arrive up to the great room with hand scraped hickory flooring and a granite fireplace to compliment the boulders of the area. Reclaimed timber mantle and reclaimed timber deck railings tie in with the entry.

The powder room has a stone sink and wooden slab counter top with tile detailing. On this, as well as the entry level, you will find closets with ample room for your guest’s coats.

The kitchen is complete with pantry, AGA stove, and an unusual granite where crystals formed within the surface thousands of years ago, crystals for Crystal Bay. The microwave is actually a drawer and the country sink oversized. There is a faucet for filling pots at the stove as well as a prep sink in the island. Set up for the gourmet chef, the conveniences will please the cook who usually makes reservations, too.

On this level is also the grand master suite complete with walk-in closet and see-through fireplace from the bedroom to the bath. The bath has extensive use of marble and interesting tile patterns, a steam shower, soaking tub and a heated towel bar for luxury after bathing. The suite includes it’s own washer and dryer as well as built-in cabinetry with a custom wood slab top.

Take the elevator to the lowest level and arrive at the gathering room. Slate floors make for easy living as you enter from the yard. This level also has the main laundry room, a theater room and another bedroom and bath. For convenience there is a wet bar complete with refrigerator and ice maker as well as a copper sink and a custom wood slab top.

Every detail has been attended to from the central vacuum to the custom doors, from the specialty light fixtures to the in floor radiant heating. This is the home of dreams, waiting for you to make your dreams come true.

I'm interested in obtaining a grant (not a loan)to start up my business?
I am a woman entrepreneur and was wondering are there any legit (government) grant programs out there where it does'nt require you to pay for the information to apply for it?
